The 2011 Victorian State Championship for Slope Aerobatics was the last one I recorded, because following this event I left the local, state and Australian bodies, while on top of my game I might add, totally disillusioned by the lack of vision from a bunch of old farts who have no idea how to run these contests professionally, no intent to make necessary changes to the rules, no plans to encourage new fliers into the sport and who feel that there is no need to promote the sport other than within their inner sanctum. Despite proving that the current rules were flawed, these people continue to run with antiquated, outdated rules to suit a handful of pensioners whose flying days are numbered. As a result of this, Mountain Gliding Australia (MGA) has been formed and plans to rebuild the slope scene and make it a formidable sport once again. Ian Cole.
